Beijing | Xiheyaju Restaurant

Ritan Park, Jianguomenwai Area (Call for directions: 8561 7643)

Xiheyaju Restaurant serves some of the best Sichuanese food we’ve ever had! It’s a great courtyard setting with the option of sitting inside, in the conservatory, or outside under the stars.

Being in the embassy area, there seemed to be a pretty even mix of Chinese and foreign diners which is always a good sign. It has the full Chinese menu including a vast array of interesting ingredients such as duck’s claws and pig’s trotters to name a couple of the many options. We didn’t stray too far away from the normal dishes, having sizzing scallops and also fantastic beef and vegetables. What was funniest though was the gigantic bottles of Budweiser which were served with the tiniest beer glasses we have ever seen! It was like drinking out of a jam jar! The address is a bit vague so definitely call for directions before setting out.
